The Croatian police arrested Yugoslav citizen V.H. around 14.30
hours on Wednesday at the Bajakovo border crossing, Vukovar-Srijem
County police said in a statement Thursday.
The Yugoslav national, suspected of the smuggling of 11 indigenous
birds from Argentina, was apprehended in line with the arrest
warrant issued by Argentina's Interpol office.
V.H. was born in 1956 and works in Novi Sad as a reporter for
Serbia's radio-television. He was brought before the County Court
in the eastern Croatian town of Vukovar, which ruled that he be
detained.
He is to remain in custody until all necessary documentation
arrives from Argentina, after which the Vukovar County Court is to
pass a decision on possible extradition.
