ZAGREB, Nov 15 (Hina) - The Croatian National Parliament's House of
Representatives on Wednesday night adopted a draft general tax law
in its first reading, and a bill on tax counsel, aimed at a better
protection of the tax payer.

The other bill introduces a completely new activity -- tax
counselling. Tax advisors will facilitate tax payers' obligations
and help the work of the tax administration, Kustrak said.

assessed both bills consolidated the compactness of the tax system,
regulated well the basic principles of the tax system, as well as
overall tax relations.
Luka Roic, on behalf of the Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS) party
bench said the drafts of these, as he put it, very good laws, could
be elaborated to reach their goal: to stimulate economic
development, employment and the realisation of the social rights of
citizens.
The party bench of the Croatian Party of Rights - Croatian Christian
Democratic Union coalition maintained that conditions for such a
tax reform had not been fulfilled, and requested a postponement of
the application of the laws until July 1, 2001.
