MESIC, PRODI TALK EU APPROACH TO CHANGES IN YUGOSLAVIA

ZAGREB, Oct 26 (Hina) - EU's increased interest and engaged approach to Yugoslavia's new president will in no way be to the detriment of Croatia's interests, European Commission president Romano Prodi told Croatian head of state Stipe Mesic on Wednesday. On the contrary, Prodi told Mesic in a telephone conversation, efforts will be taken to increase funds intended for Croatia, Mesic's office said in a statement. Prodi said the recent change of authority in Belgrade would make it possible to include the entire region in democratisation and development processes. The European Union is conducting intensive preparations for the Zagreb Summit next month, he said, adding he was confident the summit would contribute to reinforcing Croatia's status on the international scene.
