ZAGREB, Nov 8 (Hina) - Croatia is adjusting its standards to high standards in Europe and wants to enable its citizens to exercise human rights, Deputy Prime Minister Zeljka Antunovic said on Wednesday. Antunovic, chairwoman of the
government's Human Rights Commission, was addressing a gathering organised by the Foreign Ministry to mark the 50th anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights. Antunovic reminded the Convention made peace and stability in Europe and the entire world possible, saying the Council of Europe, which made the document, was "Europe's democratic conscience given the high ideals it requires of its members." The Convention "converted the ideals into legal norm," she said. Antunovic recalled Croatia joined the Council on 6 Nov. 1996 and ratified the Convention on 5 Nov. 1997.(hina) ha
