SPLIT, Oct 25 (Hina) - Delegations of all headquarters for the protection of the dignity of Croatia's Homeland Defence War convened in Split on Wednesday, with their presidents asserting some members of the government and parliament

SPLIT, Oct 25 (Hina) - Delegations of all headquarters for the
protection of the dignity of Croatia's Homeland Defence War
convened in Split on Wednesday, with their presidents asserting
some members of the government and parliament were breaching a
recently adopted declaration on the early 1990s war.
The headquarters are satisfied with the declaration and consider it
their greatest success.
Speaking to reporters in the central Adriatic port after the
closed-door meeting, main headquarters president Mirko Condic said
the criticism referred to Deputy Prime Minister Zeljka Antunovic,
who said in a Croatian Television broadcast on Oct 22 that "Croatia
had attempted an act of aggression on Bosnia and Herzegovina."
With her claim, Antunovic directly breached the declaration, said
Condic. He added the headquarters demanded that the prime minister
at once take a position in connection with the matter and force his
subordinates to respect parliament's documents.
According to Condic, similar claims have come from others who are
discontented with the declaration. He mentioned Damir Kajin of the
Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS) party, who said on Croatian
Television yesterday that Croatia had been the aggressor on
Bosnia.
The headquarters demand that IDS president Ivan Jakovcic say
whether that is the stance of his party, and that parliamentary
speaker Zlatko Tomcic react to breaches of the declaration.
The headquarters for the protection of the dignity of Croatia's war
of independence from the former Yugoslav federation were
established in reaction to the arrest of a group of suspects in
connection with a 1991 war crime against civilians in the central
town of Gospic. Some of those arrested had participated in the
homeland war.
Some veterans' associations interpreted the arrests as a form of
criminalisation of the war and set up headquarters which stopped
holding daily sessions after parliament adopted a declaration on
the war. It says that Croatia fought a just and legitimate defence
and liberation war, and not an aggressive and conquest war towards
any one.
