RACAN COMMENTS ON CONFLICT BETWEEN CROATIAN SECRET SERVICES

ANKARA, Nov 6 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivica Racan said Monday night a discussion on a law on secret services would be initiated soon, while those who unnecessarily entered a public discussion on the intelligence community must face consequences. Racan commented on a conflict between Croatian secret services, which culminated at the end of last week when the National Security Bureau (UNS) and the Service for the Protection of the Constitutional Order (SZUP) publicly accused each other of illegal acts and politicising. Mladen Lackovic, chief of the UNS supervisory service "unfortunately started first, but this does not diminish the responsibility of others," Racan concluded. The director of UNS said the SZUP had not allowed the Bureau to control the secret obtaining of information, which subsequently turned into mutual accusations between the two organisations.
