ZAGREB, Nov 3 (Hina) - The culture minister in Serbia's
transitional government said on Friday Belgrade would return to
Croatia works of art pillaged during the early 1990s Serb
aggression.
Croatia demands that Yugoslavia return 7,966 works of art,
including the Bauer private collection from the eastern town of
Vukovar.
"That is Croatia's property and its artistic, spiritual, and
cultural heritage. Fortunately, those works have been preserved
and will be returned to the last one," Culture Minister Milan
Komnenic told Croatian Television's evening news.
Most of the pillaged items are stored at Novi Sad's museum, and some
in Belgrade.
"The works of art there are stored in ideal conditions and are not a
component part of the display because Vojvodina's museum includes
only what it considers its own property," the minister said,
asserting it was never viewed as property of the museums of
Vojvodina and Serbia.
The restitution of Croatia's national riches is one of the
conditions Yugoslavia has to comply with to normalise relations
with Croatia.
