ZAGREB/ZURICH, Nov 2 (Hina) - Switzerland will help Croatia return capital illegally taken out of the country in the last ten years, Swiss Foreign Minister Joseph Deiss said in Thursday's talks with Croatian President Stipe Mesic.
Deiss said Switzerland was willing to freeze the bank accounts of Croatian citizens suspected of or prosecuted for economic crimes. President Mesic arrived in Switzerland on Wednesday evening. Today he will address Swiss and European financial and political figures in Widenmoss near Zurich. Mesic and Deiss discussed the situation in Croatia and the region, as well as the Near East crisis. Speaking about the situation in Croatia, President Mesic briefed
Deiss on the ongoing amendment of the constitution and economic
problems. Mesic stressed present-day Croatia was safe for foreign
investment.
Discussing the situation in the Near East, Mesic said it was
worrisome, but that it could be settled by political means.
The Swiss foreign minister said he was looking forward to coming to
Zagreb in early December.
President Mesic thanked Switzerland for its support to the
admission of Croatia to the European Free Trade Association and the
World Trade Organisation.
