ZAGREB, Oct 26 (Hina) - At a meeting of a regional table of the
Stability Pact for Southeast Europe in Bucharest on Thursday,
Croatia requested that Yugoslavia, as other countries of the former
Yugoslavia, should fulfil all conditions to be accepted into
international institutions, the Croatian Foreign Ministry said in
a statement.
At an extraordinary meeting of the Stability Pact Regional Table
Yugoslavia was on Thursday accepted into the Stability Pact,
announcing its accession into the first international body after
Milosevic's fall as its restoration into the international
community.
"The Croatian delegation agreed with the statement that in the wake
of changes in Serbia there were no obstacles to Yugoslavia's entry
into the Stability Pact, but also insisted that in order for it to
access international institutions, Yugoslavia ought to fulfil all
conditions that had been set before other countries, successors to
the former Yugoslavia," the statement said.
"In this context Croatia particularly accentuated the issue of
succession and continuity as crucial issues, and reiterated its
stance that Yugoslavia should request access into the UN and OSCE
(Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe) and other
international organisations as one of equal secession countries of
the former Yugoslavia," the Ministry said.
Croatia also "warned about the need of respecting human rights and
the rights of minorities in Yugoslavia, and the fact that the
cooperation with the international war crimes tribunal in The Hague
should be a condition for Yugoslavia's entry into international
institutions. Yugoslavia must cooperate with the tribunal as other
countries do," the statement read.
