TRIAL OF FORMER TOURISM MINISTER HERAK BEGINS

PULA, Oct 18 (Hina) - After a two-week postponement, the trial of Croatia's former tourism minister Ivan Herak and five other persons started at Pula's County Court on Wednesday. The trial is presided by judge Dorijana Dolenec-Kujundzic. Herak is charged with five criminal acts of abuse of office and one criminal act of embezzlement in his capacity as a Croatian government minister during 1999. The indictment was read out by County State Prosecutor Vlatko Nuic, to which all indictees pleaded not guilty. Herak has been in custody since January 27 this year. One of the other five indictees, who are charged with being accessories, is in custody whereas another one was released in line with a decision by the Supreme Court. Other indictees were released on bail.(hina) rml
