TOVARNIK TOVARNIK, Oct 5 (Hina) - The eastern Croatian border crossing near Tovarnik on the Vinkovci-Tovarnik-Sid road was de-blocked at 02.00 pm Thursday. At about 09.30 am Thursday farmers blocked the border crossing at Tovarnik and
hampered traffic along the railway line Vinkovci-Tovarnik-Belgrade protesting against a company's failure to pay them in time for the wheat they sold to that Osijek-based firm this summer. The protesters lifted the blockade from the railway line after they were persuaded by police and railway workers to do so for security reasons and later on they de-blocked the road. The farmers hindered the traffic with their tractors, expressing dissatisfaction at the 'In-Cubo' company's delay in the payment of about three million kuna (some US$357,000). FARMERS LIFT BLOCKADE FROM BORDER CROSSING IN TOVARNIK
TOVARNIK, Oct 5 (Hina) - The eastern Croatian border crossing near
Tovarnik on the Vinkovci-Tovarnik-Sid road was de-blocked at 02.00
pm Thursday.
At about 09.30 am Thursday farmers blocked the border crossing at
Tovarnik and hampered traffic along the railway line Vinkovci-
Tovarnik-Belgrade protesting against a company's failure to pay
them in time for the wheat they sold to that Osijek-based firm this
summer. The protesters lifted the blockade from the railway line
after they were persuaded by police and railway workers to do so for
security reasons and later on they de-blocked the road.
The farmers hindered the traffic with their tractors, expressing
dissatisfaction at the 'In-Cubo' company's delay in the payment of
about three million kuna (some US$357,000). Farmers ask two
millions and a local co-operative farm in the village of Lovas
should get one million. The protest was organised by the
association of the Slavonia and Baranja farmers (ZUSSB).
According to the ZUSSB secretary, Stanko Zdravcevic, today's
protest was just a warning to competent bodies and he urged them to
start tackling this issue more seriously.
Zdravcevic said 'In-Cubo' firm owed over 20 million kuna to farmers
in the country.
If this company fails to order the payment of their money by the
middle of this week, farmers in Lovas will set up new blockades.
