ZAGREB, Oct 3 (Hina) - The United States' Embassy in Zagreb on
Tuesday denied a statement of Croatia's ' Novi List' daily which
claimed that Americans intervened with the Croatian top
authorities on behalf of recently-retired General Damir
Krsticevic.
"Implications in today's "Novi List" that the United States has
intervened with the Croatian Government on behalf of recently-
retired general officers are completely unfounded. As President
Mesic and the Government of Prime Minister Racan institute reforms
to ensure that Croatia's armed forces are brought into line with
NATO's democratic standards, they will enjoy the full support of
the United States," read a statement released by the Embassy
today.
Krsticevic is one of seven Croatian generals who were retired after
they along with another five (already retired) generals forwarded
an open, political, letter to the public, protesting against media
attacks against their names and calling on the protection of the
Homeland Defence War from criminalisation.
Krsticevic has been trained at the best known military and
educational institution in the United States.
