ZAGREB, Sept 12 (Hina) - Croatia and India signed a protocol on business cooperation and an agreement on air traffic on Tuesday within the fifth session of the Croatian-Indian trade and economic cooperation committee. The protocol was
signed by Croatian Deputy Economy Minister Neven Mimica and the Indian Economy Ministry's secretary, Nripendra Misra, while the air traffic contract was signed by Croatian Transport Minister Alojz Tusek and India's Ambassador to Croatia, Udai Singh. Expressing satisfaction with the conclusion of the deal, Minister Tusek explained that at the moment Croatia had no adequate aircraft which could fly over great distances, but he hoped Croatia Airlines, would soon be able to offer overseas flights, either in co-operation with other companies or on its own. Expressing satisfaction with the conclusion of the deal, Minister

In the first half of 2000, Croatia exported goods, worth 939,000 US
dollars, to India, whereas its import was ten times higher
amounting to US$10.6 million.
In 1999 the trade between Croatia and India amounted to US$21
million. Of this, $338,000 accounted for Croatia's export, while
India's export to Croatia totalled $20.8 million. A downward trend
was registered in trade in 1999 as against 1998.
Products which are exported from Croatia to India are drugs and
other pharmaceutical products, photographic materials and
equipment, tubes and turbine engines. Croatia usually imports
coffee, spices, and cotton yarn from India.
To date, the two countries have signed a treaty on trade and the
economic cooperation and a contract on maritime traffic, and
initialled a contract on the double tax avoidance, an air traffic
contract and a contract on the scientific, educational and cultural
cooperation. Agreements on the stimulation and protection of
investment and on the tourist cooperation are being harmonised.
