Tomcic said on Monday recent newspaper articles in connection with
Croatian army Chief-Of-Staff General Petar Stipetic were the
result of a lack of real news over the summer period, Croatian
Television reported in tonight's central evening news.
Recent press reports alleged the existence of a Hague war crimes
indictment against Stipetic.
"There are too many people who in an uncontrolled, perhaps ill-
intentioned manner, are attempting to feed this people, who at this
moment needs peace, information we may call half-information or
misinformation," said Tomcic.
According to the parliament speaker, these days we have mostly been
reading about whether Croatian generals will be put on trial,
whether Croatia will continue or sever its cooperation with the war
crimes tribunal in The Hague.
"The cooperation will not be severed. Croatia's government, and the
entire Croatian people I believe, has definitely decided that all
those who individually committed crimes must also respond
individually. This is why I want to tell everybody that only if The
Hague tribunal changes its position towards Croatia, only if The
Hague tribunal begins to fail to comply with regulations of the
agreements Croatia has signed, only in that case will I convene an
extraordinary parliament session," Tomcic said.
