ZAKORENJE, Sept 8 (Hina) - A newly-reconstructed primary school was opened in Zakorenje in the Brestovac municipality near the eastern Croatian town of Pozega on Friday. The old village school was destroyed during the Homeland War and
the new one was constructed within a European Union programme of reconstruction and return. The project, worth DM150,000, was financed by the Foundation for Development of the British Embassy (DFID), in cooperation with the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB/EC) Office. British Ambassador Colin Munro opened the new school at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Munro said the project directly supported the return of displaced families. The head of the ASB/EC office, Wolfgang Gerssmann, said several other projects would be carried out in the Brestovac municipality in order to stimulate the return of young families to the area.
