between users and Internet providers. The Croatian academic and research network CARNet, which initiated this project, today presented the bases of functioning of the national centre for the exchange of Internet services - Croatian Internet Exchange (CIX), which will facilitate the linking and exchange of information between commercial and non-commercial Internet providers and private networks which meet certain minimum technical requirements. Friday signed a memorandum on the establishment of a national
centre for the exchange of Internet services, which will improve
the use of communication channels between users and Internet
providers.
The Croatian academic and research network CARNet, which initiated
this project, today presented the bases of functioning of the
national centre for the exchange of Internet services - Croatian
Internet Exchange (CIX), which will facilitate the linking and
exchange of information between commercial and non-commercial
Internet providers and private networks which meet certain minimum
technical requirements.
CIX will be located at the University Computing Centre SRCE and the
cost of communication channels and equipment will be covered by CIX
members, which are to define details and models of work by the end of
this month.
Apart from CARNet, AT&T Global Network Services Hrvatska d.o.o.,
Croatian Telecom d.d., ISKON Internet d.o.o., and VIP-NET GSM
d.o.o. have also signed the memorandum and become CIX members.
Croatian Television has announced that it intends to join CIX.
After the presentation of the project, representatives of the
Science and Technology Ministry and the Ministry of Maritime
Affairs, Transport and Communications expressed their support for
the project.
