ZAGREB, Sept 1 (Hina) - Pakistan wants Croatia to participate in the
reconstruction and development of railway lines in that southern
Asian country. The first concrete job in the furtherance of the co-
operation between these two countries is likely to be the delivery
of combine harvesters, manufactured by a Croatian firm "Djuro
Djakovic", to Pakistan. During the forthcoming international fair
in Zagreb, 'Djuro Djakovic' representatives and Pakistani
officials are expected to sign a contract on the sale of 30 combine
harvesters and this job is worth 2.8 million US dollars, said
Croatian Economy Minister Goranko Fizulic.
Minister Fizulic, who paid a two-day official visit to Pakistan
this week, held a news conference in Zagreb on Friday.
Present at the news conference were representatives of Croatian
firms and banks which are interested in the implementation of jobs
which Fizulic considered with his hosts in Pakistan.
Fizulic is one of first European state officials to have visited
Pakistan since last autumn's change in the Islamabad government.
He conveyed some political messages given by Pakistan. Thus,
Islamabad has said it will not recognise the incumbent Federal
Republic of Yugoslavia as the only successor to the former
Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) and the building
which used to house the SFRY embassy, is now given to Bosnia-
Herzegovina and Croatia at the disposal, and Sarajevo and Zagreb
should now agree on further steps.
Fizulic also conveyed the Pakistani President's invitation to
Croatian President to visit that 140-million-strong Asian
country.
In this context Fizulic said it was important to renew political
ties and thus enable Croatian companies to appear at that market. We
went to Pakistan to open the door for our firms at that market, he
explained.
Pakistan is interested in the purchase of 60 new Diesel-electric
locomotives as well as in the alteration of old engines.
Besides it would like to get 300 tank cars and this job is worth some
30-40 million German marks. Croatian firms should expect
competition in these jobs from other foreign companies.
Pakistan expects Croatia's offer in the shipbuilding industry as
well.
Fizulic assessed that Croatia's trade with that Asian country was
very small, just one or two million dollars.
Fizulic reiterated the importance of enhancement of Croatian
export for the country. He added that his visits like this tour to
Pakistan would be a part of efforts aimed at helping Croatian firms
to increase their exports. By the end of this year, the Croatian
Economy Minister will travel to Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and
Egypt.
