INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON HISTORY OF JEWS ON EASTERN ADRIATIC COAST TO START

ZAGREB, Aug 25 (Hina) - International seminar called social and cultural history of Jews on the East Adriatic coast in the 17th century will be held in the southern Adriatic town of Dubrovnik between August 27 and 30. The organiser of the seminar is the Centre for Mediterranean Studies in Zagreb and the holding of the seminar is a great encouragement for the establishment of the institute for the Sephardic history and the culture in Dubrovnik. This is the third seminar on the history of Jews in this part of the Mediterranean, which is being held in Dubrovnik biannually as of 1996. The meeting of about 40 experts from the Mediterranean will be a crucial spot for long-standing attempts of the Croatian academic community to introduce a significant trace Sephardic Jews left in economic and cultural history of Croatia to the public.
