On 23 August, 380 staffers and 53 cars, four helicopters and three fire-fighting planes were sent from the Croatian army to help those who were trying to put forest fires out. On Thursday (August 24) troops from northern and eastern districts of Varazdin and Osijek respectively were also engaged. In the aforementioned period the army's fire-fighting planes were used 307 times and helicopters of the MI8 type 120 times to extinguish the blazes. They together threw down 10,440 tonnes of water at the fire-hit sites. During those three months 1,820 fire-fighters were transported by assistance of the arm
