WASHINGTON, Aug 10 (Hina) - At least 60 US companies have shown
direct interest in doing business in Croatia and with Croatian
partners at a working breakfast held for a Croatian state
delegation at the US Chamber of Commerce on Thursday. #L#
Croatian President Stipe Mesic and Prime Minister Ivica Racan, who
are heading Croatia's delegation on a visit to the United States,
informed those present at the event about the process of economic
transformation in Croatia, privatisation and the government's wish
to secure legal, fiscal and other frameworks which will make
Croatia a country of safe and profitable investments.
Prime Minister Racan said after the breakfast the interest of US
hosts was yet another encouragement to organise the presentation of
Croatia's economic potential during a visit by Croatian government
representatives and business people to the United States next
month. Although it is necessary to complete all talks, it is to be
expected that Croatia's economic potential will be presented in
Washington, Houston and one of the big cities on the West Coast.
With about one billion dollars of invested capital, the United
States is the biggest foreign investor in Croatia. The United
States accounts for 28 per cent of all foreign investments, Racan
said. A relatively small number (about 80) of US companies are
operating in Croatia.
