ZAGREB, Aug 10 (Hina) - Zlatko Herljevic, foreign editor of the Zagreb-based daily 'Vjesnik', who submitted his resignation with other five editors on Wednesday, told Hina on Thursday afternoon he was withdrawing his resignation
because it had been motivated "solely by my honourable intention not to agree with an article which is inappropriate for 'Vjesnik'". Herljevic dismissed claims in some dailies which, he said, put him in the context of the 'rebellious six' which wanted to replace editor-in-chief Igor Mandic, or, even worse, the (group of) 'six' whom the former Vjesnik editor-in-chief Nenad Ivankovic had, in a 'gentlemen's agreement' left to Mandic on condition that they kept their posts. ZAGREB, Aug 10 (Hina) - Zlatko Herljevic, foreign editor of the
Zagreb-based daily 'Vjesnik', who submitted his resignation with
other five editors on Wednesday, told Hina on Thursday afternoon he
was withdrawing his resignation because it had been motivated
"solely by my honourable intention not to agree with an article
which is inappropriate for 'Vjesnik'".
Herljevic dismissed claims in some dailies which, he said, put him
in the context of the 'rebellious six' which wanted to replace
editor-in-chief Igor Mandic, or, even worse, the (group of) 'six'
whom the former Vjesnik editor-in-chief Nenad Ivankovic had, in a
'gentlemen's agreement' left to Mandic on condition that they kept
their posts.
Herljevic is the only of the six Vjesnik editors to withdraw his
resignation of Wednesday. The other five editors will stick to
their decisions because, they said, editor-in-chief Mandic did not
take into account their opinion that the daily should not publish a
commentary by a part time reporter, Kresimir Dujmovic, on Zagreb
Archbishop Josip Bozanic's visit to the Serb Orthodox Church.
The resigned editors believed the commentary was insulting for both
churches.
