PRESIDENT MESIC HOLDS TALKS WITH B'NAI B'RITH REPS

WASHINGTON, Aug 10 (Hina) - There is no doubt Croatia "wishes to right the numerous wrongs committed previously," Croatian President Stipe Mesic said Wednesday night during talks with representatives of the largest Jewish organisation in America, B'nai B'rith. According to an official statement issued by this organisation, Mesic had said there should be no doubt in Croatian Government intentions regarding the restitution of property to the victims of the holocaust. Mesic said that two wrongs had been committed -- the first during World War II when people had been taken away their property because of their national of religious affiliation, and the second after obstacles had been put in the way of the restitution of property in the independent Croatia. "We shall do everything possible to solve this issue", Mesic said. B'nai B'rith president Richard Heidman and other officials, as well as the director of the Euro

B'nai B'rith president Richard Heidman and other officials, as well as the director of the European organisation section, rabbi Andrew Baker, thanked the current authorities in Croatia for ceasing the previous policy which separated Croatia from the West. They expressed satisfaction with the strengthening of the rule of law in Croatia and cooperation with Israel and the USA. (hina) lml
