ZAGREB, July 20 (Hina) - After two-and-a-half-months' work, a working group in charge of drawing up a draft strategy for the usage of information technology in Croatia, formed by President Stipe Mesic, formally handed the document to
President Mesic on Thursday. The basic purpose of the strategy is to bridge the technological and information gap between Croatia and Europe and integrate Croatia into international information courses, the President's advisor on internal policy, Igor Dekanic, told a news conference. The draft will be presented to the public, forwarded to parliament and government, and will also be available on President Mesic's web site. "We are looking for shortcuts rather than well-trodden routes because with the estimated annual growth rate in economy of seven percent we would need 50 years to achieve the technological level of developed countries," said the head of

Srica. In the 21st century, people and knowledge will be much more
important than Croatia's geo-strategic position, he added.
Fourteen experts from different areas participated in drawing up
the strategy on the usage of information technology.
