ZAGREB, July 13 (Hina) - The elections, appointments and
administration committee of the Croatian parliament's House of
Representatives on Friday suggested that the Lower House appoint
Mirko Bolfek Hina's new director.
Bolfek, a long-time professional journalist and current
correspondent from Paris and Brussels, was the national news
agency's editor-in-chief in the past.
The committee also forwarded a motion requesting that Ljubomir
Antic be relieved of duty as Hina's director.
Antic was appointed director of Hina in February 1999, resigning in
December of the same year. In his resignation he said major
omissions had been made by competent state bodies in informing the
public about the death of Croatian President Franjo Tudjman, which
he added caused major damage to the late president and Croatia's
information system. Such conduct brought Hina into a humiliating
position and jeopardised its authenticity, he had said.
