ZAGREB, June 30 (Hina) - Unhappy with the situation at Croatian
Railways (HZ), trade unions of HZ's railway workers, engine
drivers, and infrastructure, on Friday announced warning
activities for July, commencing by slowing down trains on July 5,
and continuing with a series of strikes.
The trade unions say the salaries of Croatia's railway workers
seriously endanger the social minimum necessary for survival and
directly affect the security of railway transportation.
The unions point out that HZ was systematically pillaged and
represented a testing ground for money laundering under the
protection of top officials, the former ones until and current ones
after the January 3 parliamentary elections.
According to the trade unions, the incumbent government supports a
compromised board of directors at HZ which, they say, has to do the
dirty work in connection with organisation and reducing the number
of employees.
The trade unions said they did not object to HZ's restructuring, but
added they would not let it be carried out ad hoc with only one
objective, to reduce the number of HZ's workers.
