The declaration was signed by Denmark's Foreign Minister Niels
Helveg Petersen and Croatian Foreign Minister Tonino Picula,
whereas the agreement on investment stimulation and protection was
signed by Petersen and Croatian Economy Minister Goranko Fizulic.
Picula and Fizulic have been on a two-day visit to Denmark since
Tuesday, as members of a delegation headed by Prime Minister Ivica
Racan.
"The declaration is an expression of Denmark's support for
Croatia's admission to the European Union and NATO," Picula told
reporters after the signing ceremony.
"The declaration is a proof that Denmark sees Croatia as a partner
and believes that successful democratic processes in Croatia are of
vital importance for the stabilisation and democratisation of the
entire south-east Europe," Picula added.
Before the signing ceremony, Picula and Petersen discussed
Croatia-Denmark relations, and Petersen said his country would
support Croatia in the EU so that the European Commission could as
soon as possible approve the start of talks on a Stabilisation and
Association Agreement between Croatia and the EU.
Picula told Petersen Croatia believed the idea of French President
Jacques Chirac on a summit of countries of south-east Europe in
Zagreb was only being developed and that the conference should also
address some dilemmas regarding the integration of the region into
Europe and the problem of the Milosevic regime.
