Croatian President Stipe Mesic and held private, 15-minute talks. Upon Mesic and a Croatian delegation's arrival to Vatican, the Croatian national anthem was played in the yard of the Apostle Palace for the first time. Pope John Paul II welcomed Mesic outside of his library and greeted him in Croatian. After the talks, President Mesic introduced the Pope to the Croatian delegation.
