ZAGREB, June 28 (Hina) - Croatian Radio Television (HRT) director
Mirko Galic on Wednesday announced that the HRT would this autumn
offer a strategy of development for the next two to five years.
In an informal conversation with reporters, Galic informed them
about the measures taken by the HRT management in the first hundred
days, adding the management's task was to resolve the difficult
situation which had grown worse over years.
In the first 100 days, the management cancelled the programme '3 X
24' as, according to the findings of an audit, it had no financial
ground. Of a total of 100 manager contracts, seven were kept and
their value has been reduced by a third. The salary of the HRT
director now amounts to 15,200 kuna.
The number of those using official cars has been reduced to seven,
official travel costs have been cut by 20 percent and
representational costs have been reduced by 50 percent. The new
management has reduced by 25 percent the costs of 1,200 part-time
collaborators, and by the end of this year their number should be
reduced by one half.
Galic said the HRT management also wanted to settle its ownership
role in Mostar's Erotel TV station, in which it still owns a 24
percent share.
One of the most important tasks will be the reduction of the number
of employees, who currently number 3,500.
Galic believes the scope of operation can be maintained with 1,000
employees less, but he finds it hard to take away anyone's right to
job and wage. Still, 400 employees could go into retirement and an
ongoing audition for part-time employees should contribute to the
reduction as well. After the first round of the audition, 50 percent
of examinees had very good results, 15 percent were borderline
cases and 35 percent did not achieve satisfactory results, Galic
said.
