Minister, Zeljka Antunovic, on Friday.#L#
"The Croatian pavilion brings a live atmosphere of the whole of
Croatia," said Antunovic, who is the national commissioner for this
world fair in Germany, entitled "Man, Nature, Technology".
On Saturday, Croatia Day will be celebrated at the EXPO. Prime
Minister Ivica Racan is the helm of a Croatian delegation that will
arrive in Hannover tomorrow for this event.
At this world exhibition, which lasts between 1 June and 20 October,
the Croatian blue pavilion is completely encircled with water and
two small bridges are the access to its interior. Inside the
pavilion a visitor can see all riches and diversities of Croatia's
relief - the sea, forests, Karst, mountains and arable land -
presented under the glass floor.
In the pavilion, arranged by architect Branko Siladjin and designer
Ivica Vidovic, Croatia is also presented by slides and replicas of
art sculptures.
Means worth 25 million kuna (approximately $3 million) were
allocated from state budgets in 1999 and 2000 to prepare this
project, and the rest of money was ensured by sponsors, Antunovic
said.
After the end of EXPO, this pavilion will be moved into a Croatian
town.
An invitation for bids will be announced and Croatian towns and
cities can contest, Deputy PM Antunovic said adding that the
government will donate the pavilion, while the selected town should
cover the costs of dismantling and transporting the whole structure
and re-setting it.
On Friday afternoon Antunovic will open an exhibition "Magnificent
Istria (Carobna Istra)" within this event.
EXPO 2000 is the first show of this kind in Germany. With 175
pavilions of countries and international organisations (such as
UN, EU, OECD, the World Bank, the International Olympic Committee)
it occupies 1.7 million square metres.
Hannover hosts the 30th world exhibition. The first EXPO took place
in London in 1851. The next world exhibition is to be held in the
Japanese city of Nagoy.
