PRESIDENT MESIC OPENS "CROATIAN STATEHOOD DAY" EXHIBITION

ZAGREB, May 25 (Hina) - On the occasion on Statehood Day which Croatia celebrates on May 30, Croatian President Stipe Mesic opened an exhibition entitled "Croatian Statehood" at the national university library in Zagreb. Exhibited are legal, historic and literary documents from March 8, 852, until October 8, 1991. "In line with state law Croatia entered the wider communities and was not independent, but has maintained its statehood. Croatia did not lose it statehood in 1918 because the Croatian Parliament had never ratified Croatia's entrance into the SHS State and the Kingdom of Yugoslavia," Mesic said. He asserted that through the former Yugoslav Constitution in 1974 which had confederate elements, Croatia had received a status on the basis of which the Badinter Commission had in 1991 recognised its right to its independence.
