BELI MANASTIR SDSS COUNCILLORS FREEZE ACTIVITY IN TOWN COUNCIL

BELI MANASTIR, June 7 (Hina) - Seven Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS) members of the town council of Beli Manastir, eastern Croatia, will not participate in the council's work as long as "illegal decisions and activities and irregularities in the work (remain in force)," the party's town committee said in a statement on Wednesday. The SDSS claims the town council's May 29 establishment was illegal because prior to the constituent session two members had not resigned their professional duties in this body. According to the statement, the law stipulates the incompatibility of the councillor's and professional duty in the same body of local self- government. The Beli Manastir town council has 25 members, including seven from the SDSS, ten from the Croatian Democratic Union, five from the Apple coalition, which comprises the Social Democratic Party, the Croatian Social Liberal Party, and the Slavonia Baranja Croatian Party, one from the Croatian Peasants' Party, and three from the Croatian Party of Rights.
