ZAGREB, May 23 (Hina) - Croatia's Economic-Social Council on
Tuesday assessed a government package of measures would positively
affect the economic revival, on condition that it did not result in
a significant increase of prices.
According to the Council, the new measures are a good stimulant to
overcoming the crisis, increasing production, new employment,
stability in bringing money into the state budget, and regular
payment of pensions.
There is no basis for a significant increase in prices, which
according to Council president Vitomir Begovic, would disrupt the
whole concept of new measures.
Begovic conceded representatives of the government, trade unions,
and employers had failed to reach consensus on the new measures
because some unions remained reserved over the possibility of
uncontrolled price growth.
"?he biggest responsibility for a possible enormous growth in
prices lies with employers, and if that happens, the unions will
demand higher net labour prices," Begovic said.
He added most social partners agreed the new measures shifted the
spending burden on the rich in Croatia.
