ZAGREB, May 31 (Hina) - The appointments committee of the Croatian parliament's House of Representatives at Wednesday's session formulated a draft decision on the appointment of ten members of Hina's Council, in proportion with party
representation in parliament. According to the law on the national news agency, the other ten members are appointed by the government. The Council's president is elected and relieved of duty by the Council itself. All are elected to four-year mandates. Although the Law on Hina was passed in 1990, the agency's Council has never been appointed. The Council passes opinions on the agency's programme direction and activity, discusses reports on the agency's work and other important Hina-related issues. The Council passes opinions on the agency's programme direction and
activity, discusses reports on the agency's work and other
important Hina-related issues.
Following Hina director Ljubomir Antic's resignation earlier this
year, the appointments committee on April 17 forwarded to Mato
Arlovic, chairman of a coordination of parliamentary benches, and
to the benches in the Lower House a note suggesting the appointment
of a new Hina director.
