ZAGREB, June 6 (Hina) - Leaders of the ruling six-party coalition on
Tuesday discussed an initiative for amendments to the
constitution, the payment of debts to pensioners, agreements with
American companies Bechtel and Enron, the privatisation of public
companies and the price of domestic wheat.
Prime Minister said after the meeting this was a working meeting at
which no conclusions had been reached, but stances exchanged on
some important issues.
Racan said the payment of the state's debts to pensioners was not
disputable.
"I dismiss any doubts. We which to fulfil the election promise, but
the question is in which way, by which means and in what time," he
said.
Concrete information on agreements with American company Bechtel
and the Government's advocation for a section of the future highway
through the Lika region, which, he said, caused a conflict of
interests in Croatia.
Racan announced a Government delegation, headed by the Prime
Minister's chief deputy, Goran Granic, would travel to Houston on
Wednesday to try and harmonise "what needs harmonising with
Bechtel".
"We are not completely satisfied with the contract (on the
construction of a thermo electric power plant), but we must not
rescind it," Racan said.
The meeting confirmed the intention of the six parties to at the
latest in the first half of July an initiative be started at the
Parliament for the change of the Constitution, on the basis of which
a concrete suggestion of constitutional changes would be drawn up.
The meeting also focused on the continuation of the privatisation
of public companies, to be discussed by the Government in the next
several weeks.
