SISAK/SLAVONSKI BROD, June 1 (Hina) - Two thousand and six hundred (2,600) workers of the Sisak-based iron and steel plant, went on strike on Thursday morning protesting against the failure to pay them their salaries for April and
resolve their status and the destiny of the ironworks. The company's owner is Croatia's Government. Employees stopped manufacturing, and only necessary services on duty are active to ensure the maintenance of plants and prevention of possible glitches. Unionists said the workers were worried about the destiny of the ironworks and about their own existence, as the Government had not yet given a clear stand on a programme for rehabilitation and the restructuring. It also did not confirm guarantees which the former Government had given for the construction of a new steel mill. plant for the production of special vehicles took industrial action
as well.
The employees with this plant within "Djuro Djakovic" holding, went
on strike as they did not get salaries for April.
War veterans, employed with this firm, forwarded a letter to
Defence Minister Jozo Rados reminding him that the defence ministry
is the biggest defaulter to "Djuro Djakovic".
