ZAGREB, May 18 (Hina) - Following additional information the
Government will consider whether its decision on eviction of
displaced persons from hotels can be fully implemented or whether
it should be changed, said a Croatian Deputy Prime Minister, Zeljka
Antunovic, after her meeting with representatives of displaced
Vukovar citizens.
On Thursday they staged a peaceful rally in front of the offices of
the Government and the national parliament, protesting against the
order that they have to leave hotels where they are given free
lodgings.
Antunovic informed the Government that at the meeting with
Vukovarans their objections were accepted about the impermissible
bureaucratic attitude towards those displaced people.
On behalf of the Government I promised that their destinies must be
solved individually rather than treating them as cases on the
paper. Their problems should be settled in a humane manner an
individually," Antunovic told the Government that held a session
today.
She added that representatives of displaced people had accepted a
decision that people whose houses or flats were reconstructed
should leave hotels immediately.
It was agreed that within seven days relevant institutions should
provide exact data on the way and number of people who can now have
lodgings. There is information that displaced persons, now
accommodated in hotels, can be moved into other lodgings, she said
and in this context she mentioned empty flats in the eastern
Croatian town of Vukovar.
It was decided that 30 June should be the deadline for the
Government to implement a decision on the permanent accommodation
for displaced persons who are now living in hotels, Antunovic
concluded.
