ZAGREB, May 17 (Hina) - Croatian President Stipe Mesic on Wednesday forwarded a letter of congratulations to Pope John Paul II on behalf of all Croatian citizens wishing the Pope all the best on the occasion of his 80th birthday.
Paying tribute to the Holly Father for his contribution to historical changes in today's world, President Mesic remembered Pope's pastoral visits to Zagreb and Sarajevo during which he expressed his sincere compassion with those who suffered and once again expressed a wish for achieving permanent peace in the region. Encouraged by the same concern, the newly elected authorities in Croatia wish to realise a true democratisation of the society, ensure economic progress and social stability to all citizens, in order for Croatia to, as a democratic, stabile and prosperous country, contribute to the affirmation of permanent peace in the region, Mesic said in his letter.(hina
