Alija Izetbegovic has decided not to support the appointment of
Tihomir Gligoric to the post of the first chairman of the reshuffled
Bosnian Council of Ministers. In this way, Gligoric's candidacy has
been disputed.
After the three-man Presidency held a session with officials of
Bosnia's House of Representatives on Tuesday in Sarajevo, it was
stated that Izetbegovic withdrew his earlier consent explaining
that Bosnian Serb Gligoric did not enjoy support of the
international community.
A statement, released from the office of Zivko Radisic, Bosnian
Serb member of the collective Presidency, did not say how Radisic
and Croat member Ante Jelavic had responded to Izetbegovic's
decision.
Later in the day Gligoric told reporters in Banja Luka that Radisic
abode by the support to his candidacy and that this proposal would
be submitted to the House of Representatives which is to discuss on
Wednesday a crisis caused by prolongation of appointment of the
Ministerial Council's new composition.
Previously Gligoric's candidacy was contested by Bosnian Serb
entity's Premier Milorad Dodik and a political party "Serb People's
Alliance" led Biljana Plavsic.
The Office of the High Representative has indirectly brought
Gligoric's candidacy into question. The Office's spokesman James
Ferguson on Tuesday reiterated that the chairman of the Council of
Ministers must enjoy support of both entities.
In case that Bosnian Parliament does not endorse Gligoric's
appointment, Mladen Ivanic, the leader of the Party of Democratic
Progress (PDP) which scored excellent results at the recent local
election in Bosnian Serb municipalities, is likely to be a new
candidate for the Council's chairman.
