ZAGREB, May 11 (Hina) - France appreciates very much everything the
Croatian Government has made in such a short period of time and
accusations coming from Croatia that France is stalling Croatia's
admission to the World Trade Organisation are unfounded, the
secretary-general of the French Foreign Ministry, Loick
Hennekinne, said in Paris on Thursday.
Croatia's Deputy Foreign Minister Vesna Cvjetkovic Kurelec today
held a meeting with Hennekinne within Croatian President Stipe
Mesic's official visit to France.
Hennekinne said he was impressed with measures taken by the
Croatian Government because it had proven that different ethnic
communities could coexist peacefully in south-east Europe, read a
statement released by the Croatian Foreign Ministry.
Emphasising the bold decision of the Croatian government to adopt
this year's budget despite the danger of social tensions it could
cause, Hennekinne conveyed France's support for everything the new
government had done so far and hope that other countries in the
region would follow Croatia's example.
According to Hennekinne, the Croatian media are unjustly accusing
France of stalling Croatia's admission to the WTO because Croatia
can expect France's overall assistance in its efforts to draw
closer to European and Atlantic institutions.
Cvjetkovic Kurelec expressed gratitude for France's support for
Croatia's admission to the Partnership for Peace and informed her
host about Croatia's new foreign policy, especially toward Bosnia-
Herzegovina.
She emphasised that the effects of Croatia's democratic progress
had already been felt in neighbouring countries, except for
Yugoslavia, and added an important part of Croatia's foreign policy
was its Mediterranean component, which had yielded its first
concrete results in the Adriatic-Ionian initiative.
