ZAGREB, May 8 (Hina) - President of the Croatian Association of
Homeland War Invalids (HVIDRA), Marinko Liovic, issued a statement
Tuesday asserting the media were, in the past several weeks, trying
to draw from context what he had said as a Croatian Homeland War
soldier and invalid, through manipulations and lies, with the aim
of creating "opinions that Croatian Homeland War soldiers were
against the state they had created".
Because this is necessary for someone, certain media are creating a
situation approaching chaos in Croatia, Liovic said.
For the need of a dialogue with the Government, and also as a sign of
partially admitting his mistake, Liovic dismissed the possibility
of blocking any border crossings, airport or harbours.
"If anyone should place tree trunks on roads during this year or
following years, it will be those the Government is returning to
Croatia, offering them greater rights that certain soldiers,"
Liovic stressed. In this statement, Liovic insinuated the
beginning of Croatian Serb separatists' rebellion in 1990 when they
blocked roads with tree trunks in the middle of the tourist season
(so-called trunk revolution).
The association I preside over reserves the right to the use of
democratic methods for maintaining and improving the status of our
own members, Liovic said.
