STRASBOURG, May 5 (Hina) - President of the Council of Europe's Parliamentary Assembly Lord Russel Johnston on Friday opened the conference of presidents of parliaments of 41 Council of Europe member-countries. The presidents will
discuss the strengthening of cooperation in the further building of the European legal system and the implementation of European norms as well as the role of parliaments in a struggle against organised crime and corruption. At the beginning of the session, president of the Croatian National Sabor Zlatko Tomcic was elected one of the two vice presidents of the conference, at a proposal of the president of the Assembly, Lord Russel Johnston. Croatia's candidacy for the host of the next conference of presidents of European parliaments, to be held in 2002, has been adopted by acclamation.
