SABOR DELEGATION LEAVES FOR STRASBOURG

ZAGREB, May 4 (Hina) - A delegation of the Croatian National Sabor, headed by Sabor President Zlatko Tomcic, on Thursday left for Strasbourg, where it will participate in a three-day conference of the presidents of European parliamentary assemblies. The conference of the presidents of European parliaments and parliamentary assemblies, which is held under the auspices of the Council of Europe, will focus on the role of national parliaments in fighting organised crime and corruption, as well as on their role in shaping the European legal system, Tomcic said. The Croatian delegation will attend a debate on the two topics. During their stay in Strasbourg, the Croatian parliamentarians will hold a series of meetings with European parliamentary delegations and lobby for the further improvement of Croatia's international position, Tomcic said. He emphasised that Croatia was a candidate for hosting the same conference in two years' time. The official confirmation of Croatia's being the host of the next conference is expected at the Strasbourg meeting. The Sabor president also expressed hope that one of the more positive results of the Strasbourg meeting would be the imminent cancellation of the Council of Europe monitoring over Croatia.
