ZAGREB, May 3 (Hina) - The fifth Croatian financial forum which
gathered some one hundred participants in the Croatian financial
market and foreign representatives was opened in Zagreb's Inter-
Continental Hotel on Wednesday.
The forum, entitled "On a New Development Path" will last until May
5. It was opened by Finance Minister Mato Crkvenac.
The conference has gathered representatives of the media,
publishing companies, service companies and for the first time,
companies dealing with new technology, the so-called E-banking,
the Internet and so on.
According to Crkvenac this year's financial forum is being held in a
new political and economic environment, with an accent on social
and economic development, entwining Croatia into European and
global processes.
Crkvenac mentioned the increasing support of the international
community and expectations of Croatia's joining the World Trade
Organisation this month, as well as Croatia's accelerated
association membership in the European Union.
The Croatian financial forum has in the past five years asserted
itself in very difficult conditions. The forum, as Croatia's
financial sector project, not a government initiative, can
continue developing successfully, Crkvenac assessed.
The goal of the forum, according to director of the organiser,
Infoinvest, Tomislav Gavazzi, is presenting business activities,
new financial products and plans of the most important participants
in the Croatian financial sector.
Programme events will be directed towards conferences and
presentations. Most attention is paid to a round table conference
on the Croatian Government's economic policy, entitled "99 Days
After and 356 Days Before".
Other conferences are called "Pension Reform, Take Two", "Further
Directions of Privatisation and Continuation of the Privatisation
of Telecom", "Perspectives of Electronic Businesses in the
Croatian Financial Sector".
Traditionally, the Golden Share of the Year will be pronounced at
the forum, under the organisation of the Vecernji list daily.
The general sponsor of the forum is Croatian Telecommunications.
