ZAGREB, April 20 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament's House of Representatives continued its third session on Thursday debating a report on the ombudsman's work in 1999. Citizens' safety has improved, especially in areas of special
government concern, ombudsman Ante Klaric said, explaining the report. There continues to be a high number of complaints in connection with the functioning of courts, Klaric said, adding the big social and economic problems also had a negative impact on Croatia's residents. He singled out the non-payment of salaries, pointing out the government should settle the issue urgently. The ombudsman expressed hope parliament would adopt his suggestions for the solving of particular problems, in order to improve the quality of living.(hina) ha
