OSIJEK, April 16 (Hina) - The Association of Croatian returnees
(former displaced persons) is satisfied with recent talks with
Prime Minister Ivica Racan and his Deputy Zeljka Antunovic when it
has received concrete and satisfactory answers to strategic
questions the returnees have raised, the Association's (ZPH) head
Josip Kompanovic told a news conference in Osijek on Sunday.
"We have assessed that for the time being there is no need to stage
previously announced protest rallies, but we shall follow the
implementation of what we agreed at the meeting," Kompanovic said.
According to him, Premier Ivica Racan told returnees that extra-
budgetary means and donations would be sufficient for the
reconstruction of a higher number of houses compared to the
reconstruction in 1999. In addition, a fund raising conference only
for the needs of Croatia is due to be organised in the end of June.
The conference is to tackle problems of the economic recovery and
job creation in the hardest war-stricken Croatian areas. Possible
investors will be offered favourable conditions for financing and
the Government is planning to relieve them of some taxes in their
business during a period no shorter than five years, Kompanovic
added.
The ZPH leader said Premier Racan had promised to order relevant
ministries to prepare the enforcement of the Law on Areas of the
State Special Concern for eastern Croatia and other region where
the law has not been totally implemented to date. This particularly
refers to the privatisation of companies.
Regarding the problem of Bosnian Croat refugees who moved into
houses of Croatian Serb refugees in the light of announcements that
Serbs would like to return, Deputy Prime Minister Zeljka Antunovic
told the Association's representatives that "no Croat will be moved
out until the adequate accommodation is provided for them in
Croatia, and there will be no eviction that can cause undesirable
consequences on the ground," Kompanovic told reporters.
