Friday. The two officials described their meeting in Zagreb today
as contribution to the promotion of the bilateral ties.
May will be marked by the particular dynamic of the development in
the relations between Zagreb and Rome, Croatian Minister said after
the meeting which was also attended by Premier Ivica Racan.
Racan is to visit his Italian counterpart Massimo D'Alema on 8 May,
while Ancona will host a conference on development and security on
the Adriatic and Ionian seas on 19 and 20 May.
Croatia and Italy will co-chair a working table on cooperation in
economy, tourism and cooperation between ports.
"The strengthening of bilateral ties between Italy and Croatia
considerably contributes to broadening possibilities of
multilateral cooperation, and it is a new characteristic of the
Croatian-Italian relations," Picula said.
Speedy development of multilateral relations requires some dynamic
of bilateral ties so that from time to time certain problems occur
in the relations between Croatia and Italy, but they should not
present bigger obstacles in the relationship, the Croatian
minister assessed and voiced hope that May meetings would confirm
Italy's as a strategic partner of his country.
The relations between Croatia and Italy are positive and the
cooperation is being performed in almost all areas, Ranieri added.
Italy supports Croatia's bids to come closer to EuroAtlantic
integration structures and believes that a politically strong and
stable Croatia is a stability factor of the entire region, said the
Italian official who was on a one-day visit to Zagreb.
Picula told Ranieri that his government would take adequate steps
in compliance with its laws to free confiscated Italian ships
(seized in the Croatian waters poaching) as soon as possible.
