SARAJEVO, March 26 (Hina) - The first volume of the Croatian
encyclopaedia, published in the mid-1999 by the "Miroslav Krleza"
lexicographic institute, was presented in Sarajevo last Tuesday.
The promotion was organised by the Croatian Embassy in the Bosnian
capital, under the sponsorship of Bosnia-Herzegovina's Academy of
Arts and Sciences (ANUBIH) and the university library in Sarajevo.
The lexicographic institute's head, Dalibor Brozovic, and an
assistant to the editor-in-chief, August Kovacec, spoke about the
first volume on that occasion.
The Croatian Encyclopaedia has been following pioneering efforts
of such kind taken a hundred years before as well as all subsequent
activities in this field by the then Yugoslav lexicographic
institute led by Miroslav Krleza.
Brozovic added that 11 planned volumes of the Croatian
encyclopaedia would contain all positive achievements in this
field in the past and would also correct wrong statements or make
public all suppressed facts about Croatia and the Croatian people.
Kovacec said almost 400 aides and contributors were engaged in the
production of the first volume. He added that material was being now
completed for the second volume and it is likely to be published
this autumn.
The President of the Bosnian Academy of Arts and Sciences, Bozidar
Matic, voiced huge satisfaction with the fact that the Sarajevo
promotion of the first volume of the Croatian encyclopaedia was a
step in the renewal of the cooperation between the Academy and the
lexicographic institute.
Matic said that during the war the Academy managed to preserve all
materials collected for a special volume of the general
encyclopaedia, dedicated on Bosnia-Herzegovina. The two
institutions will begin to draft an encyclopaedic lexicon of
Bosnia-Herzegovina and subsequently the special encyclopaedia on
Bosnia-Herzegovina, he explained.
Matic said he was expecting that this deal would become a part of an
agreement of the two countries on their cultural cooperation.
