ZAGREB, March 3 (Hina) - Former Croatian Foreign Minister and
independent Member of Parliament, Mate Granic, described the Hague
Tribunal's sentence read against General Tihomir Blaskic as
"draconian".
It is Croatia's interest to provide all the necessary assistance to
Blaskic's attorneys to overturn the sentence, especially regarding
the part speaking about conflicts in the Lasva Valley being of
international nature, Granic told Hina on Friday.
"I hold that we cannot speak about an international conflict and I

Granic said.
He held Blaskic did not deserve the sentence he received.
Granic described Blaskic as a senior military professional who
happened to be in surroundings and circumstances in which providing
help in Central Bosnia had been barely possible.
Asked if he believed Blaskic had been tried more for Croatia's
politics towards Bosnia-Herzegovina than himself personally,
Granic said "I believe this is correct, because Blaskic was
convicted for objective responsibility in a conflict which was
described as international".
