THE HAGUE, March 2 (Hina) - After almost four years since the volunteer surrender of former commander of the Central Bosnia Operation Zone Tihomir Blaskic, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) is to
pass a sentence on Friday. In late July 1999, the ICTY prosecution in its closing speech demanded that Blaskic be sentenced to life in prison for crimes committed in the Moslem-Croat war in central Bosnia-Herzegovina between May 1992 and January 1994. The defence, however, demanded that Blaskic be acquitted. Blaskic is suspected of crimes against humanity, the violation of war laws and customs, as well as of the violation of the Geneva conventions.(hina) it mm
