ZAGREB, March 3 (Hina) - Vladimir Seks, acting president of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) said Friday "the policy of cleansing, revenge, and targeting political non-sympathisers as had been present in Croatia after 1971, and
their dismissal, as well as forcing of resignations notwithstanding their expertise," is active in Croatia. At a news conference in Zagreb Seks warned that this was a "detrimental process threatening to Croatia", and is a "form of special civil war". "The spreading of hysteria and dismissal of all those appointed in the last ten years are a threat to the social stability of Croatia, because they will cause harsh reactions from people concerned about their future and who have nothing to do with the HDZ," Seks said. At a news conference in Zagreb Seks warned that this was a
"detrimental process threatening to Croatia", and is a "form of
special civil war".
"The spreading of hysteria and dismissal of all those appointed in
the last ten years are a threat to the social stability of Croatia,
because they will cause harsh reactions from people concerned about
their future and who have nothing to do with the HDZ," Seks said.
He added this was not a cry for ceasing the determination of
responsibility for committed irregularities, but an attempt to
criminalise the entire political system of past years.
"The dismissal of chairman of HEP's management board (Croatian
electric power supply company) Damir Begovic, who was neither a
member of the HDZ, nor elected under political criteria, clearly
proves this is political revenge," Seks asserted.
He stressed such a trend existed on all social levels, so the
resignations of people who had not been criticised for their work
were being demanded at a local level, with the aim of quenching the
appetites of parties with a majority in the parliament.
